Lidia Sciarrotta – Remembrance
In this work, Lidia remembers Sicily when she last visited it. She would love to visit Sicily again. For obvious reasons (covid-19), that chance has been somewhat taken from her. Reminding herself of the warm sun, the bright colors, the soft sand, the beautiful nature, and painting… That is a way for Lidia to bring her closer to a place where she cannot be. It brings her comfort.
This artwork is selected by Joëlle Dubois and Yaqine Hamzaoui. Joëlle: I’m a big fan of impressionism and seeing this piece, in some way, reminds me of Paul Gauguin. The pastel and dreamy color combination, the composition of shapes, and the clear strokes drew my attention. It carries a certain type of ‘honesty’ and childlike appearance, which I appreciate. Yaqine: I chose this artwork ‘cause it attracted me at first sight. The painting feels calm to me, something I would hang up in my bedroom. Everything fits perfectly; the choice of color, the shape of the house and the trees, the faceless person,… I think it’s a place where I would be myself at this particular moment.
