Herlinde Raeman – la liberté de Paolo
Lately, Herlinde is occupied with searching for the meaning of life. In her endeavors, she came across Paolo who summed it up as ‘C’est la liberté’. This picture was taken in his garden which also doubles as a Bocce terrain.
This artwork is selected by Natasja Mabesoone. “An analog black and white photograph in which one can almost sense the warmth of its sunlit landscape. A world awake, a dream-like set-up of some Summer day reality. A game is played or is ready to be played; an invite for collectiveness. It brings me back to a late afternoon in which I witnessed a friend having a rather idiosyncratic way of throwing a petanque ball on the field. Like Michel Serres says: ‘Skill with the ball is recognized in the player who follows the ball and serves it instead of making it follow him and using it.’ Both the photograph and the memory it activates, give me a subdued grin.”
